This website is published by Federal Defense Group to explain how federal criminal cases work and what the firm does. Federal criminal matters are fact-specific and high-stakes, so it matters that readers understand exactly what this website is — and what it is not.
1. General Information Only
Everything on this website — pillar pages, offense pages, district pages, FAQs, articles, statute summaries and interactive tools — is general informational and educational material. It is not individualized legal advice, it is not tailored to your facts, and it cannot substitute for the judgment of a lawyer who has reviewed your case.
2. No Attorney-Client Relationship
Viewing this website, using a calculator, submitting a form, calling, emailing, texting, sending a chat message or receiving general information from the firm does not, by itself, create an attorney-client relationship. A relationship is formed only after the firm has agreed to undertake the matter, any required conflicts review has been completed and a written engagement agreement is in place.
3. Do Not Send Confidential Information Until Representation Is Confirmed
Please do not send unnecessary confidential, sensitive or potentially incriminating material before the firm confirms that it can consider or accept your matter and has told you how to send it. A short, general summary is enough to begin.
The protections that apply to preliminary communications from prospective clients depend on the circumstances and on the law of the relevant jurisdiction. You should not assume that anything you send through a website form is automatically privileged in the same way as a communication within an existing attorney-client relationship. The firm handles prospective-client information consistent with its professional obligations, but the safer course is to send less until representation is confirmed.
4. Conflicts of Interest
Before the firm can agree to represent anyone, it may need to evaluate the identity of the person seeking help and of other parties, co-defendants, witnesses, entities and related individuals. Sending an inquiry does not mean the firm is conflict-free, available or able to take the matter. If a conflict or capacity issue exists, the firm will not be able to proceed.
5. No Guarantee of Results
No attorney can guarantee the outcome of a federal investigation, prosecution, sentencing or appeal, and nothing on this website should be read as a promise or prediction of any result. Outcomes depend on the facts, the applicable law, the charging decisions of the government, the assigned judge, the jury where a case is tried, the prosecutor, the district and its local practice, the strength and admissibility of the evidence, the procedural posture, guideline and sentencing issues, and many other circumstances.
6. Case Results, Verdicts and Dispositions
Where any case result, verdict, dismissal, sentence or other outcome is described on this website or elsewhere, it is provided for general informational purposes only. Prior results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome in any other matter, and every case turns on its own facts and law. Descriptions of outcomes are necessarily summaries and omit case-specific circumstances that affected them.
7. Testimonials and Reviews
Any testimonial or review that appears on this website or on third-party platforms reflects the individual experience and opinion of the person who provided it. Testimonials are not a guarantee, warranty or prediction of the outcome of any other matter, are not necessarily representative of the experience of every client, and results vary.
8. Attorney Advertising
This website may be considered attorney advertising in some jurisdictions. It is intended to provide general information about federal criminal defense and does not seek to represent anyone in a jurisdiction where the website would not comply with applicable ethical rules or laws.
9. Jurisdiction and Nationwide Federal Practice
This website discusses federal criminal practice in federal district courts and courts of appeals across the country. Appearing in a particular federal matter is governed by rules that vary by court, and an attorney’s ability to appear in a specific case may depend on state licensure, admission to the bar of the particular federal court, admission pro hac vice where applicable, association of local counsel, the court’s local rules and the circumstances of the case.
Nothing on this website should be read as a representation that any attorney is licensed in every state, admitted in every federal district or able to appear in any particular case. Whether the firm can represent you in your district is determined on a case-by-case basis.
10. Geographic Pages Do Not Indicate Offices
Pages about states, federal districts and courthouse locations exist to explain how federal practice works in those jurisdictions — the courts involved, the agencies that investigate there and the procedures that apply. They do not mean that the firm maintains a physical office, staffed location or established presence in each city, district or state described.
11. The Law Changes
Federal statutes, the United States Sentencing Guidelines and their amendments, Supreme Court and circuit decisions, the Federal Rules of Criminal and Appellate Procedure, agency charging practices and individual courts’ local rules and standing orders all change over time. Content on this website may not reflect the most recent developments, and circuits may reach different conclusions on the same question.
12. Statute and Guideline Summaries
Discussions of Title 18, Title 21, Title 26 and other provisions of the United States Code, of the Sentencing Guidelines and of the Federal Rules are summaries written for a general audience. They simplify elements, defenses, enhancements and penalties, and they are not a substitute for reading the actual authority, the applicable guideline commentary and current controlling case law in the relevant circuit.
13. Federal Sentencing Guidelines Calculator Disclaimer
The Federal Sentencing Guidelines Calculator generates an informational estimate of an advisory guideline range based solely on the values a user selects. It is an educational illustration of how the Sentencing Table works.
The calculator does not calculate or account for every:
- guideline application issue or grouping question;
- statutory mandatory minimum;
- statutory maximum;
- specific offense characteristic or enhancement;
- departure or variance;
- relevant conduct dispute;
- criminal history computation dispute or career-offender question;
- plea agreement term or its consequences;
- safety-valve question;
- cooperation or substantial-assistance adjustment; or
- other sentencing consideration.
Calculator output is not a prediction, not a legal opinion, not a sentencing recommendation and not anyone’s actual sentence. Sentences are determined by a federal judge under 18 U.S.C. § 3553(a) and applicable law, and the Guidelines are advisory. Using the calculator does not create an attorney-client relationship.
14. Automated and Third-Party Summaries
Search engines, AI assistants, aggregators and other third-party services may crawl, quote, summarize, paraphrase or reinterpret content from this website. Those outputs are generated outside the firm’s control and may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate. The firm is not responsible for summaries, answers or characterizations produced by third-party services, and only the content published on this website reflects what the firm has actually said.
15. Third-Party Links
This website links to courts, government agencies, statutes, guideline materials and other outside resources for reference. The firm does not control those sites and is not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and a link does not imply endorsement.
16. No Tax, Financial, Immigration or Medical Advice
Federal criminal matters frequently touch tax, financial, immigration and health issues. Unless expressly provided as part of an established professional relationship with an appropriately qualified professional, nothing on this website should be treated as tax advice, accounting or financial advice, investment advice, immigration advice, medical or mental-health advice, or other professional advice outside the general legal information presented here. Collateral consequences — including immigration consequences — should be evaluated with a qualified professional in that field.
17. Emergencies and Deadlines
Do not rely on a website form for an emergency or an imminent deadline. Submitting a form does not guarantee that it will be reviewed immediately, and the firm cannot promise a response within any particular time.
If you are facing an imminent arrest, a scheduled court appearance, an appeal or filing deadline, a custody or detention issue, an interview request, a search in progress or any other urgent legal event, seek immediate legal assistance through direct contact with a lawyer rather than relying on a web form.
18. Communications From Jails and Prisons
Communications made through the ordinary telephone, email, video and messaging systems available in jails and prisons may be monitored, recorded or reviewed, depending on the facility, the system and the circumstances. Those general systems are not necessarily confidential attorney-client channels, even when a lawyer is on the other end.
Anyone in custody, and any family member communicating on their behalf, should assume that general facility communications may not be private and should arrange an appropriate legal communication channel with counsel.
19. Federal Investigation Content
Articles explaining how federal investigations, grand juries, subpoenas, search warrants and charging decisions work are educational. They are not instructions for destroying or altering evidence, evading investigators, concealing assets, contacting or influencing witnesses, or obstructing a government proceeding. Conduct of that kind is itself a federal crime and can be far more damaging than the underlying investigation.
20. No Prediction Based on General Content
Two federal cases charged under the same statute can end very differently. Do not rely on a case example, a sentencing range, an FAQ answer, an article, a calculator output or a statute summary on this website to predict what will happen in a specific matter. Only a lawyer who has reviewed the actual facts, discovery and procedural posture can assess a particular case.
